Passing the burning battleships

NavyPhoto**

The light cruiser USS Phoenix (CL-46) cruises along the burning row of battleships at Pearl Harbor. To the left is a smoky plume from the battleship USS West Virginia (BB-48), to the right of that battleship is the USS Arizona (BB-39) during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii; December 7, 1941. The cruiser was anchored to southeast of Ford Island and escaped unscathed. Shortly after midday she was assigned to a search task force for enemy aircraft carriers, which was unsuccessful.
