On July 18, 1942, Air Vice-Marshal Sir Hugh Lloyd handed over the Malta Command to Air-Vice-Marshal Sir Keith Park, who is here seen making a tour of inspection soon after his appointment as A.O.C.  The launch serving for the time being as a water-taxi is one belonging to the Air/Sea Rescue Service of the R.A.F.

Bombs had fallen near Canterbury during the Battle of Britain, on October 11, when some of the stained glass was shattered.  A direct attack was made by the Luftwaffe on the night of May 31-June 1, 1942, as a reprisal for the terrorist attack by the British Air Force on the inner city of Cologne, according to the German High Command.
