Colonel Viljanen

Kaarlo Ilmari Viljanen(1893– 1942) He fought in WWI in German eastern front and then in the Finnish Civil War. Just like most other ones of the first Finnish jaegers, he remained in the military career and participated in the creation of the young country's defence forces. In The Winter War(1939-'40) Viljanen first acted as the commander's assistant in Detachment Pajari but was later given a seperate unit of his own. During the Continuation War he commanded the 4th Division in battles on Karelian Isthmus and East-Karelia, where he stepped onto a landmine in 1942 and was mortally wounded. He was promoted as Major General the same day that he died.
