Often called the forgotten war. The Norwegian campaign in 1940.

Norwegian infantrymen surrender during the campaign in 1940. They were well treated by the Germans, and released when the fighting ended. 

Many of these Norwegians were so ashamed of the Norwegian Army that they later joined the German Waffen-SS.

The battalion was sent to the Eastern front in January 1942 and took part in battles along the Mius River and later in the Caucasus campaign of 1942, forming the southernmost vanguard made by the Germans during the campaign. The battalion reached the Grozny oil fields before finally being pushed back by the Soviets.

Himmler said "Where a Finnish SS-man stood, the enemy was always defeated."
