Aware of Thorne impressive wartime record, former OSS chief W.B. Donovan personally interceded to get him U.S. residency and permission to enlist in the U.S. Army. Soon Thorne was commissioned a second liutenant at Ft. Bragg and sent to Europe with the 10th SFG.
