The wreck of a South African plane came across Aquino airfield by the Allies after the German troops retreat. The plane is the Curtiss Kittyhawk IV FX779 of South African Air Force’s No 5 Squadron damaged by AA fire during the Battle of Montecassino and forced to an emergency land in Aquino airfield still under German control on 19 May 1944.
