Other Forces
Norwegian resistance fighters near the end of the war. The Norwegian resistance against the German occupation grew gradually as the the war went in favour of the Allies. What started as a rag tag band numbering some few tens in 1940, eventually became a considerable force numbering 250 000 armed underground men in 1945. But their activity during the war was poor. Their goal was only to keep the Germans in a state of alertness. The result was a German occupation army of 450 000 men rotting in Norway when they were badly needed in the defence of Germany.
